Exposed to mother nature’s force

Temperatures below minus 20 degrees Celsius, deep snow and a thin layer of ice. These are common conditions for machines working in the Gördalen area, a village located in the deep forest between Sälen and Idre, close to the Swedish border with Norway.

Gördalen is well-known among the Nordic snowmobile riders for its well maintained and groomed trails. But nothing comes for free and it takes a lot of time and effort to groom the trails before and during high season.

During the pre-season it can be a bumpy ride when the snow is not deep enough. When working in these harsh environments you need high endurance machines and components that are well-sealed to avoid breakdowns.

“It is always interesting to develop and test new solutions in these tough conditions” says Jan-Åke Johansson, Chairman of the Gördalen snowmobile community. “One specific example is our snow groomer. Here we replaced a traditional electric winch with an electromechanical actuator from Ewellix. We saw some weaknesses in the winch, especially when there are really low temperatures combined with ice, but also when it comes to quality and product lifetime. Operational reliability and safety are important to us. We contacted Ewellix and they suggested their CAHB electromechanical actuators and we used it to replace our previous solution. We are now into our second season of using the CAHB actuators and we are more than satisfied: it is a very robust and compact solution.

We are not the first player to test using electromechanical actuators. Others have tried and failed, but with this high-quality product from Ewellix, we can really see that it will work for many years”
